Setting Up Your LLC

Course Overview:

Setting up your company (LLC)

Texting platforms and carriers want to know that you are a real company and not a scammer. They require you to have an LLC before you can start sending text messages.

There is no way around this. Plus its best case to have a company so you are protected.

Setting up an LLC:

You have a few options.

Option #1 : You can do this on your own. In your own state or in a different state ( do not get caught in this – your area is fine to start)

Follow the steps below to create your own llc.

  1. Choose a name for your llc – do not take too much time on this ( you can use a DBA later or change the name no big deal)
  2. Choose a Registered Agent (also sometimes called a statutory agent). A registered agent is a person who agrees to receive lawsuits, subpoenas, and other official documents on behalf of the LLC and to pass them along to the appropriate person at the LLC.
  3. File organizational paperwork with the state

Each state has its own form and procedure for establishing an LLC. In general, you must file articles of organization that list such things as:

  • The name and address of the LLC
  • The length of its existence, if not perpetual
  • The name and address of the registered agent
  • The purpose for which the LLC was formed
  1. Prepare an LLC operating agreement

An LLC operating agreement is the roadmap that describes how your LLC will be run. You can find free and simple ones to model on google.

  1. Determine licenses needed ( none usually needed for REI most can skip this step)

After the LLC’s formation documents are filed and approved, the state will issue a certificate or other document confirming that your LLC exists.

Once you’ve received the certificate, you can determine any specific permits or licenses—typically none needed

  1. Get an EIN

The next step is to get your Employer Identification Number, or EIN for short. Your EIN is sort of like a Social Security Number for your business.

Not only is it unique to your business, but it’s crucial for particular business necessities like banking, taxes, and even hiring employees.

I am not an attorney and cannot give you legal advice however here are 3 step by step articles that walk you through how to set up an llc on your own.
